AMDSB encourages local residents to consider role of school board trustee

HURON-PERTH – The Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) is providing information to the public in an effort to encourage Huron-Perth residents to run for school board trustee.

Trustees will be elected on Oct. 24 during the municipal election.

According to AMDSB Director of Education Dr. Lisa Walsh, “Our trustees play a vital role in overseeing the focus in our education system as related to our Strategic Plan. They are passionate about public education and they advocate for student achievement and well-being.”

There are nine trustees for AMDSB, representing a geographical portion of the district and the schools within. The areas include: Southwest Huron, Central East Huron
, Northwest Huron, North Huron/Morris-Turnberry/Howick, St. Marys/South Perth/West Perth, North Perth, Perth East, and Stratford (x2).

“We expect several vacancies on our board so we are hopeful that any residents interested in student achievement and well-being come forward. We particularly encourage diverse community members to run so that voices of equity-seeking groups are better represented,” said Dr. Walsh.
