Firefighter and fire engine blocks off street.
The Fire Department of North Huron, alongside Huron County paramedics and OPP, shut down the main street in Wingham, Josephine Street, on Oct. 2. The closure, and evacuation of the area, was due to what police called an “item... of concern” in a box to a local business. Residents at the barricades told Midwestern Newspapers the item was a grenade and it was part of a box of donated goods to the Salvation Army. Local media later confirmed that. The road was closed for several hours as police waited for the Grey Bruce OPP Explosive Disposal Unit, which arrived just over three hours after the initial call. (Denny Scott photo)
