Merle was born on October 14, 1926 in Howick Township to Carman and Alice (Spence) Bride. She married Mac on August 23, 1947, and they farmed in Grey Township, near Cranbrook. They moved to Listowel in 1970 where their home on Maple Avenue was always a beehive of activity. Countless hours were enjoyed with friends and neighbours playing cards, dancing, bowling, and watching children and grandchildren competing in baseball, ringette, and hockey. Mom had a kind heart, was easy going, never one to complain, would quickly add an extra place at the table at meal times if someone came along, and she always wanted to be on the go.
A Celebration of Merle’s long and full life will be held at Trinity United Church, Listowel, on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow. Rev. Jennifer Hoover officiating.
Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.
Memorial donations to Trinity United Church, Listowel, or Listowel Memorial Hospital would be appreciated, and may be made through Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
