Thelma Hallman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma Mae (Koch) Hallman of Listowel, a beloved mother, mother-in-law, and Nanny.   She passed away peacefully at Livingstone Manor, Listowel, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in her 85th year.

Wife of the late Bruce Hallman.  Mother of Connie Woolsey of Renfrew, and Mike & Tracy Hallman, and Cara Sturgeon, all of Listowel.  Grandmother of Rob Woolsey & Anna Farquharson, Amanda Woolsey & Mitch Desilets, Chantelle & Sean Suitor, Tyler Hallman & Sarah Hallman-Krul, Nathan Hallman & Kaitlyn Dannemann, McCalla Sturgeon, and Skylar & Josh Gingerich, great-grandmother of 10 and great-great-grandmother to one on the way.   Remembered also by her sister Audrey Luckhardt of Listowel.

Predeceased by her parents Roy & Gertrude Koch, brother Norman Koch, parents-in-law Herbert & Elizabeth Hallman, and brothers-in-law Jack Brown, and Dennis Luckhardt.

Born in Listowel, Thelma was raised on the family farm and began a life of her own when she married Bruce on July 19, 1958. Together, they farmed on the 3rd of Wallace, where they raised their three children, Connie, Mike, and Cara. In 1989, they made the move into town, beginning a new chapter in their lives.

Thelma was a woman who knew how to keep busy and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved doing word searches and playing solitaire, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs, watching NASCAR, and singing along to good old country music.  She also had a talent for cooking and spent many years working in several local restaurants, including Corky’s, Modean’s, the Golden Barrel, the 19th Hole, and Diana Sweets. She was known for making amazing food—and, if the stories are true, probably curing a few hangovers along the way!

Thelma will be remembered for her strong spirit, her love of country music, sports, cards, and good food, and for the many memories she created throughout her life.  She will be missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Livingstone Manor for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided to Thelma. We would also like to sincerely thank Dr. Edmonds and the palliative support team for their guidance, compassion, and support during her final days. Your care and kindness brought comfort to Thelma and to our family, and we will be forever grateful.

Visitation was held at Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., where a private family funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Listowel, or Listowel Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.
