Dr. Anthony “Tony” Wise

It is with extreme sadness that we

announce the passing of Dr. Anthony “Tony” Wise, DVM, peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Walkerton.

Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and countless stories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.

Tony attended the University of Guelph, then continued his studies at the Ontario Veterinary College and graduated in 1972. He began his career as a veterinarian in Mildmay, where he met his wife, Phyllis.

Tony and Phyllis shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, building a life together and raising their four children.

Tony will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Phyllis, and their children:

Ryan (Nicole) Wise, their children Charlie (Kody), Rylie, and Ellie Evan (Stacy) Wise, their children Saige and Sophie Amy (Paul) Eddyvean, their children Emma, Ashley, and Ava Steve (Amber)Wise, and their children Adalyn and Mya.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Jody Davey (Mark Blackmore) and Kathryn (Eddy) DeGurse. Brother-in-law of Darlene (Fred) Schiestel, Ron (Phyllis) Durrer, (Barb) Durrer, Marlene Bross-Durrer, Shirley (Dwight) Metcalfe, Butch (Charlene) Durrer, Chuck (Donna) Durrer, Sandra (Doug) Inglis, Brian (Sherry) Durrer, and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Lincoln and Jean Wise, parents-in-law Jerome and Marie Durrer, brothers-in-law Ken and Doug Durrer, sister-in-law Irene Durrer, and nephew Mackenzie Durrer.

Tony was incredibly passionate about his career as a veterinarian. His dedication to animals and the people who loved them was a huge part of who he was. Over the years, he formed countless relationships with his clients, and we are sure the stories from those years will live on forever.

He will be remembered for his love of horseshoes, hockey, and golf, where he cherished the time spent with friends, and for his appreciation of quiet moments in nature, often by a stream where he loved to fly-fish.

Tony had a way of leaving an impression on people, and there will certainly be no shortage of stories, laughter, and memories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Many stories were shared as we came together to celebrate Tony’s life with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Mildmay, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, which was followed by a Celebration of Life at the Mildmay Carrick Community Centre.

Tony will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
