Work by local artist Silvana Virdiramo on display at Walkerton library

WALKERTON – The Bruce County Public Library, Walkerton branch, is pleased to announce a new installation by local artist Silvana Virdiramo. It will be on display until Oct. 7.

Silvana Virdiramo was born in Cassino, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1953. She attended Georgian College Art School for three years, majoring in printmaking and painting.

“Art has always been fascinating to me since I was in grade school and I taught myself by drawing religious pictures (in Catholic School) instead of listening to the teacher.”

The artist works in pastels, acrylics, oils, graphite, and etchings, and her pieces are full of movement, emotion, and spontaneity based on life experiences. She is a member of the Saugeen Artist Group as well as Paisley’s MacNamara Gallery and Sticks & Stones Gallery.

Virdiramo has had solo exhibitions at the Harriston-Minto Gallery in Harriston, and the Jade Tree Gallery, Durham, and has taken part in several local group exhibitions. Internationally, her work The Protector was on the cover of The Complete Mother Magazine, which was distributed in Canada, New York, Morocco and Egypt. More locally, pieces have been accepted and displayed in the Grey-Bruce Southern Georgian Bay Calendar, the Owen Sound Banner Project, the Grey Bruce Landscape Calendar, and the Metal Fish acrylic painting outdoor display in the Municipality of Brockton.

The Art Wall is a local treasure and a wonderful way for the community of Brockton to appreciate and connect with local artists. Drop by the Walkerton branch, enjoy Virdiramo’s wonderful works, and be sure to sign her guest book.
