Suspicious vehicle complaint leads to impaired driving charge for Howick resident

Huron County OPP has charged a Howick Township resident with Impaired Operation and a drug possession offence after a complaint was reported to police on Aug. 20.

Huron OPP officers were dispatched to Jamestown Road in Huron East at 9 a.m. on Aug. 20. A concerned citizen had observed a vehicle partially in the ditch and contacted OPP.

Officers located the involved vehicle and spoke to the driver, who displayed signs of impairment. Officers had reason to believe that drugs impaired the driver, and they were subsequently arrested.

The accused was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment in Clinton for further tests by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.).

A 62-year-old Howick Township resident was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine.

The accused was additionally charged with an offence found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on Sept. 25.
