MORRIS-TURNBERRY – A driver was stopped by police on Clyde Line during the early hours of Canada Day – apparently for driving too slow.
Huron County OPP say an officer on patrol conducted the traffic stop at 2:42 a.m. when they observed a northbound vehicle “travelling much slower than the posted speed limit,” according to a July 20 release.
Police say that the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving following a conversation with the driver.
The driver was arrested and transported to the Huron County OPP detachment in Clinton for testing.
“Suitable breath samples were provided to police, which resulted in readings over the legal limit,” states the release.
The driver, a 55-year-old from North Huron, was charged with operation while impaired, and operation while impaired – over 80. The driver’s vehicle was also towed and impounded for seven days, and their license suspended for 90 days.
The accused has been released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 14 in Goderich.
