St. Joseph’s Aid Society holds annual meeting

FORMOSA – Conrad Van Eyken, acting president of the St. Joseph’s Aid Society, welcomed members to the March 20 annual meeting and opened with a prayer. Because of COVID there has been no annual meeting since 2019, and those minutes were now accepted and carried, and the 2022 financial report was read, accepted and carried.

A $500 donation was made to help defray the expenses for the March for Life trip to Ottawa on May 12.

Chris Black, Kevin Hundt and Chris Procher were accepted and initiated as new members. The May crowning pilgrimage of the Blessed Virgin Mary will journey from the Lions Park to the church with the crowning, mass and lunch on Saturday morning, May 13. A family picnic is again planned for this summer on Aug. 20.

The Pork Hock supper will take place on Oct. 17. Formosa clubs are noted for helping out with each other’s projects. The Formosa Lions will assist with this meal and the St. Joseph’s members will return the favour on Dec. 14 at the Lions Christmas dinner.

Van Eyken thanked the outgoing executive members for their service to the club. The club is most grateful to Earl Spitzig, who has served as secretary-treasurer for 32 years. He was responsible for most of the paper work being completed, and for contacting members.

Elections were held with the following men taking office:

President – Conrad Van Eyken

Vice-President – Nick Schnurr

Secretary – Adrian Nolan

Banner Carrier – Malachai Zettler

Earl Spitzig will deliver and present 50-year member certificates and pins to Doug Durrer, Ray Fischer and Carl Zettel, and a past president’s pin to Jason Wagg.

Congratulations to the new executive and the 50-year members.
