It is with great sadness that the family of Glen Edward Austin announces his passing on March 15, 2023, at the age of 79, in Listowel, Ontario. Beloved husband of Carol Townsend for twenty years, and much loved father of Ryan, Leigh, and Kim. Loved stepfather of Annette (Dave), Andy (Ashley), and Amy (Alan), and stepgrandfather to Paige, Kenzie, Maiya, Ben, Emily, Logan and Ryan. Glen was predeceased by his parents Edward and Josephine Austin (nee Raines). Survived by his sister Susan Millar (Bruce), and the mother of his children Hazel Kennedy.
Glen was born and raised in Waterloo. He graduated from Waterloo Collegiate Institute, attended Wilfrid Laurier University, and began his career in the family business, Waterloo Fuels. He was deeply committed to his community, involved in minor league sports, served on various volunteer committees, and was a long standing member of the Waterloo Lions Club (President 1975-76).
Renowned for his biting wit, he was a voracious reader, long time runner, and a member of the Science Hill Golf and Country Club (St. Marys, Ontario). As a lifelong jazz lover and musician, Glen played the organ, saxophone, accordion, and took up the piano later in life, studying under Pat Ludwig.
In lieu of a service, the family wishes that you celebrate Glen’s memory with a fine glass of Scotch. To recognize and thank Dr. Ian Cameron and the nursing staff for their care, donations to the Listowel Memorial Hospital would be preferred, and may be made through the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
