To the editor,
It’s the time of the year that crews are cutting back tree branches that are deemed to be too close to the road – a necessary job. However, instead of making a clean cut that the trees will be able to heal, this year in Brockton crews are using a tool that tears and rips at the branches, leaving a chewed-up open wound on the tree. Besides being an eye-sore, this destruction leaves the tree very vulnerable to disease and insect pests.
This photo (pictured right) of the lovely old maple trees was taken on 2nd Concession just East of 15th Sideroad. However, this desecration of our trees is happening all over Brockton, thus it’s highly likely that in not too many years, many of the beautiful old trees along the country roads of Brockton will be dead or dying.
I have called the municipal office about this practice but have not found anyone who seems to care.
Sincerely,
P.T. Dimeck
Brockton
