WALKERTON – A near-capacity crowd of supporters listened intently and cheered on some of the area’s talented young students at the Walkerton Legion’s public speaking competition.
Judges had a difficult time deciding, and the results at each level were extremely close with only a few points between all competitors. Youth Education Chair Rich Henry presented the awards at the close of the competition.
Final results were: Primary Grades 1-3 – Sophia Parsons, first place; Addison Fry, second place. Junior Grades 4-6 – Tessa Kuntz, first place; Aaden Tuttle, second place; Trindon Rhody, third place. Brycen Courtney, Jake Hanes and Chase Yahbee also competed. Intermediate Grades 7-9 – Karleigh Dudgeon, first place; Zoey Gebhardt, second place; Marley Lorentz, third place; and Sadie Bester, fourth place.
All the first-place finishers will advance to the Zone C-3 Level competition, to be held at Harriston Legion on Feb. 25.
