WALKERTON – The Allison Lupton Band takes to the stage at Victoria Jubilee Hall on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Allison Lupton was born and raised on a second-generation dairy farm in rural Ontario, and has always been immersed in Canadian folk life, but it took a love and intense study of Irish and Celtic music for her to find her way to the Canadian folk music tradition that she grew up around.
After working with various bands and groups, Lupton began releasing music under her own name in 2001. With six recordings to date and several award nominations to her name, Lupton continues to impress across North America, Ireland and the United Kingdom with her musicianship.
The late Stuart McLean of CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Café said, “Allison has a beautiful, clear singing voice, an eclectic capability and sensibility and the ability to tell a story with her flute. She is a wonderful musician and a lovely person.”
Additional praise comes from Tom Allen, a writer, broadcaster and musician.
“She may have earned a master’s degree in music, nominations from the Canadian Folk Music Awards and a songwriting prize from Folk Music Ontario, but she still writes and sings the kinds of tunes that stay with you whether you’re out on the town in your dancing shoes or trudging in the garden in your Wellies.”
Backing and supporting her flute playing and vocals are her accomplished bandmates, who bring guitar, mandolin, fiddle and stand-up bass into the mix, providing a rich, deep sound.
Treat yourself to an evening of music to chase away those late winter blues! Tickets are $40 and available through ticketscene.ca, or by contacting Victoria Jubilee Hall at 519-881-2826 or vjh@wightman.ca.
