FORMOSA – Lion President Jim Batte welcomed 41 people including 13 guests, to the Formosa Lions’ Christmas dinner meeting.
Following the singing of the national anthem, a toast to the King and Lions’ Grace, Lion members introduced their guests. Although most of the guests were spouses of the members, Lion Peter Evans and his wife Kathy introduced their two guests – Karoon from Japan and Eva from France, who will be with the Evans until July 1, 2023. The girls are currently attending Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton.
Following a delicious turkey and ham dinner, President Jim thanked the St. Joseph’s Aid Society members who served the meal and cleaned up. He also thanked the Lions who prepared and cooked the meal.
Secretary Lion Hank Soers and treasurer Lion Jennifer Batte attended to their duties. The following donations were approved: $150 to Special Olympics and $200 to Sick Kids Hospital in London. The 50/50 tickets were circulated among the members with the club purchasing the balance of the tickets for Camp Kirk, a Canadian non-profit children’s camp fostering self-esteem, leadership and environmental stewardship. It’s OCA accredited, established in 1921.
Lion Carl Zettel reported on the recreation centre outdoor pad, saying that Nick Voisin and his group have completed all the installations with the netting, etc. The school has been advised they can start to use it and ice will be installed as soon as it is cold enough.
Lion Shirley Kuntz reported at the executive meeting that the Formosa School students, accompanied by their respective teachers, have been using the recreation centre Lions Library, as there is no longer a library at the school.
Lion Glen Weber was thanked for volunteering his time to put on the ice and snow guards on the recreation centre roof.
Past District A-9 governor, Lion Jennifer Batte, reported that she received a bronze medal award acknowledging that while governor of District A-9, Lion’s Clubs in A-9 donated to LCIF (Lions Club International Foundation) an amount averaging over $100 per member. PDG Lion Jennifer thanked the Formosa Club and all the clubs in District A-9 for their support.
Lion Mike Hallahan thanked all the Lions who volunteered to man the Salvation Army kettles at Foodland and Independent Grocers in Walkerton.
The first draw of the 2022-23 Lions Lottery draw was held with the following $40 winners: Tammy Weber, Teeswater; Jason and Jean Smith, Holyrood; Helga Lorch, Formosa; Jill Kuntz and Mel B, Markdale; and Ron and Karen Dietrich, Mildmay. Congratulations.
