WALKERTON – A Brockton resident has been charged with arson in relation to a fire at an apartment building at 308 John St. in Walkerton on Dec. 1, 2022.
An investigation into the cause of the fire conducted by South Bruce OPP, the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has led to an arson charge being laid by police.
The accused, 26-year-old Brandon Carroll of Brockton, has been charged with arson – disregard for human life. Carroll will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice to answer to the charge.
The apartment building is operated by Bruce County Housing Corporation. According to a press release from Bruce County, 20 tenants were taken to the local community centre where the county worked with partner organizations to find shelter for tenants and look after their immediate needs.
No serious injuries were reported.
