Hanover Community Players casting for spring production of Mom’s Gift

HANOVER – The Hanover Community Players are announcing their new play for the spring of 2023 and wish to audition people for its production of Mom’s Gift.

Mom’s Gift is the hilarious and poignant award-winning play by Phil Olson. The rapid-fire succession of uproarious one-liners and poignant family revelations brings the audience to the completely unexpected surprise ending.

The set-up is based on a daughter’s therapist-ordered return to her family home on her father’s 60th birthday.

The Hanover Community Players summarize the play as, “Mom has been dead for 11 months and shows up at her husband’s 60th birthday party as a ghost with a mission. Like Clarence in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life, she has to accomplish a task to earn her wings. What that task is, is an actual mystery.”

Director Marg Poste says the play offers actors an opportunity to really develop their characters with depth and feeling. There are roles for four women and two men.

Please see the website for information about the characters. Ages are suggestions only and will depend upon the actors selected.

Auditions will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6 and Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hanover. Those attending are asked to use the 11th Avenue auditorium entrance and follow the signs.

All are welcome to try out, experienced or not – just be willing to learn and be a part of the team.

Rehearsals will be on Sundays and Thursdays and will start in January 2023, with the production being staged April 28-20 and May 5-7.
