HANOVER – Saugeen Municipal Airport raised funds on Sunday, Oct. 16 for Hope Air.
At Hope Air, they believe that no one should suffer from the stress of how Canadians will access their health care. Some, who live in remote areas and don’t have families, depend on volunteer pilots to fly them to medical appointments.
At times, patients are faced with high costs and cannot afford additional expenses when it comes to travel. Saugeen Airport is proud to take part in fundraising efforts each year.
Hope Air recognizes volunteers for their efforts, which brought a prestigious award, Spirit of Hope, to local pilot Burt Hodgins and wife Maria in 2021. It’s caring volunteers, like Burt, who volunteer their time, fuel, and airplane, to get patients to and from their appointments. Without volunteer pilots, Hope Air wouldn’t exist. Without these fundraising efforts and generous donations, 4,500 flights would not have happened in 2021. Hope Air not only assists with flights, but also with accommodations, meals, and other transportation.
With donated auction items, meals and prize ticket sales, the Saugeen Airport raised $4,582. The largest donated auction item was two WestJet tickets to anywhere they fly. Thank you to Dennis Bushell from Walkerton, who donated his time singing and getting the crowd up dancing.
