North Huron councillor candidate – East Wawanosh Ward: Chris Palmer

BIOGRAPHY

Hello, I am Chris Palmer. I am running to be re-elected as a North Huron councillor in the Ward of East Wawanosh. My wife Donna and I raised our family here. Now our daughters Amanda and Kristen, have their own families and careers. We have farmed here for 45 years.

This municipality and area have been good to me. It is a wonderful place to have a business and raise a family. I wish to continue serving North Huron.

Throughout my farming career, I served the farming community by working with several agriculturally based organizations and committees. Representing the East Wawanosh Ward is the best way of safeguarding the interests of our rural residents.

BIGGEST ISSUE

Satisfying the housing need of the community is crucial. We have begun with a 74-unit apartment building in Wingham and currently, the running of services to Hutton Heights is in process. This should help with the housing shortage.

Reaching deals with our neighbouring municipalities, regarding services, is important. We need cross-border agreements.

Regarding taxation – council needs to be fiscally responsible. Walking that tightrope of supplying services, managing assets, and keeping taxes in check is a balancing act. This is my primary focus.

Asset management – We have millions in assets and they must be maintained. We must commit funds to the task. However, it must not be an overwhelming burden on the taxpayer. “A little at a time.”

We only need common sense, then we can build a bright future together.
