North Perth deputy mayor candidate – Doug Kellum

BIOGRAPHY

Doug Kellum is currently the Deputy Mayor for the Municipality of North Perth.

With the support of my family, friends and many residents from North Perth, I am seeking re-election for the upcoming council term.

I was born and raised in Listowel and have been married for 36 years to Jan McCracken. We have two children and four grandchildren.

I have been employed 37 years with Ideal Supply Company Inc., one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, 32 of those years as an account manager.

I have dedicated a lifetime of volunteering in North Perth to help make this community a better place to live and raise a family.

Some of my community service involvement has been:

– Director with the Listowel Jr. B Cyclones Hockey Club – six years

– Director with the Wallace Optimist Club – nine years

– Firefighter for North Perth – Listowel Station – 14 years

– Director/Coach with Listowel Minor Baseball – 15 years

This past council term I have worked on the following committees:

– Chair for the Human Resource Committee

– Chair for the Economic Development Committee

– Your council representative for Perth County council

With 16 years of experience as your elected representative, I have the proven leadership and management skills to continue to be your Deputy Mayor for the Municipality of North Perth.

ISSUES

There are several important issues facing North Perth in the upcoming term – inflation, taxation and affordable/attainable housing – to name a few.

One issue we need to stay focused on and support is doctor recruitment.

In North Perth we have 13 family physicians with one clinic providing health care for roughly 18,300 patients.

With physicians retiring in the years to come, this will definitely impact the number of patients being cared for, not taking into consideration those still waiting for a family physician.

As North Perth continues to grow, doctor recruitment must remain a priority for council.
