Morris-Turnberry council candidate: Chris Michie

BIOGRAPHY

I was born in and have lived in Morris twp, just  outside of Belgrave for most of my 52 years. I attended schools in Brussels, Belgrave and Wingham, before attending Lambtom College. I’ve been married to Colleen for 27 years and we have two adult children. I have been a member of the Belgrave Kinsmen for 28 years while working at Bruce Power since 1991. I am now nearing retirement and have always been interested in local politics.

I have always donated my time to the community and have a lot of experience planning and organizing.  I’ve been on many different committees with the Belgrave Kinsmen. I have held executive positions most years and in 2010, I was the chairman for the Belgrave Arena refurbishment.

I have been a member of the Wingham Minor Hockey executive.  I’ve spent almost all of my winters and summers coaching both kids’ teams in softball and hockey. Since 2019, I have been the manager for the Lucknow Lancers Senior “AA” hockey team.

ISSUES

I am committed to getting a shared-services agreement in place with North Huron. I don’t know why an agreement hasn’t been able to get done. We need to be able to work with our neighbours.

I am against losing good farmland to developments. The Minister Zoning Orders, that allow mayors to bypass the planning process in order to fast-track developments is the wrong way to go. We have a good process, we just need to speed it up.
