WALKERTON – The board of directors of Saugeen Hospice announced on Sept. 2 they will be receiving a $568,732.33 transfer from Grey Bruce Hospice imminently.
The funds have been held in a separate “south build” account by Grey Bruce Hospice, which initially started the fundraising efforts for a satellite hospice in 2017 that were ultimately paused in 2019.
Following Saugeen Hospice’s Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charitable status confirmation in early June, Grey Bruce Hospice announced it would no longer be pursuing the south build, making Saugeen Hospice the successor to carry on the community held vision of a hospice close to home in the southern Bruce Grey region.
“We are thrilled that the funds raised over several years by our incredibly generous community will now be put to use, and help achieve our goal of building a hospice in the southern Bruce Grey region” said Kelly Fotheringham, chair of Saugeen Hospice.
“I’d also like to thank Grey Bruce Hospice for their cooperation in this process, and for their stewardship of these funds over the last couple of years. We look forward to collaborating with, and learning from the hospices already serving the greater area.”
Saugeen Hospice is prepared to move ahead in collaboration with the Ontario Ministry of Health to further develop the plans for the hospice that will be sited in the Municipality of Brockton.
Founded in 2021, Saugeen Hospice, along with its hundreds of supporters, are passionate about the vision to provide compassionate, professional end-of-life care in a hospice facility that will serve the residents of Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Hanover, Minto, South Bruce and West Grey.
