WALKERTON — Several historical items from Victoria Jubilee Hall (VJH) will be on display this summer at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.
Visitors to the museum will see original tools from 1897 used to construct the hall, a miniature version of the hall and several other important historical items. The exhibit runs the entire month of August.
“We are thrilled to share our story with visitors to the museum,” said Robin Zettel, VJH board member. “Our beautiful hall has such a rich and wonderful history and continues to play an important role in Walkerton and across the region. We are very thankful to the Bruce County Museum for all the work they do to keep local history and we are proud to be a part of such a lovely tapestry.”
The hall is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary. Visitors to the museum will learn about John “Jack Black” Douglas, who was a two-time town reeve and helped construct the hall. Original tools used by Douglas will be on display, just one of the interesting chapters in the history of the hall.
“We are excited to partner with the VJH to celebrate this significant anniversary with the 125th display at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre,” said Cathy McGirr, director, museum and cultural services.
The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre is located at 33 Victoria St. N. in Southampton. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
