WALKERTON – Club president James Lang announced this week that the Walkerton Jr. C Hockey Club will have a new name and logo.
“As we begin a new chapter with the Walkerton Junior C Hockey Club, with the support of our former executive and local minor hockey system, we are proud to announce that the Walkerton Hawks will rebrand as the Walkerton Capitals Junior C Hockey Club,” said Lang in a press release.
“This was an easy decision for the organization as we are excited to align and build off the success of the Walkerton Minor Hockey system. We have been inspired by their championship successes over the past several years and look to work closely with them to encourage them to continue to strive to the next level of hockey.”
The Walkerton Blackhawks were founded in 1973, playing in the Junior D League. In 1976, they made the jump to Junior C where they won the league championship in the 1981-82 season.
The team’s name was changed to the Walkerton Hawks in 2000, and after a change in executive in 2005 the Hawks went on to 12 consecutive finals, winning seven league championships.
The new Walkerton Capitals Junior C jerseys will have a Hawk on the shoulder to commemorate the success of the past 46 years.
“The Walkerton Capitals organization promises to deliver a team for the community to rally around and with the support of our loyal fans and our ongoing community sponsors, we are confident that with our dedicated group, we will deliver,” said Lang.
