LISTOWEL – Police have charged the driver of a vehicle that ran over a fire hose on April 21, resulting in one firefighter being injured.
All three stations of the North Perth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a residence on Havelock Avenue South in Listowel on April 20. That fire was put out, however firefighters were called back to the residence the following morning (April 21) at 7:40 a.m. to deal with a ‘rekindle’ at the site.
According to Perth County OPP, while firefighters were getting in position, a vehicle drove over a charged fire hose around 8:20 a.m., resulting in one firefighter being injured.
“That knocked a firefighter to the ground,” Fire Chief Janny Pape told the Banner on April 22. “The change in pressure caused that.”
The firefighter was taken to Listowel Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released later that day.
Police have charged a 74-year-old Listowel man with careless driving.
The accused with issued a Provincial Notice for the offence.
