State of emergency lifted in Perth County, North Perth

NORTH PERTH – Two years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the local state of emergency has been lifted.

At 9 a.m. on April 6, Perth County, North Perth, Perth East and West Perth lifted the state of emergency.

The state of emergency was first declared across the region in April 2020.

The declaration of a state of emergency is a tool used by Municipalities to ensure they are able to rapidly respond to a crisis and provide necessary services during unforeseen events.

“The termination of the state of emergency signals a positive step forward, but it does not signal the end of the COVID-19 pandemic,” states a joint release. “Each municipality would like thank citizens for their continued efforts to help stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Officials say it is also important to stress that COVID-19 remains active in communities across Perth County.

“Please continue to self-monitor for symptoms and stay home if you feel unwell. Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, maintain social distancing and masking where required or appropriate, and get vaccinated when you are eligible,” states the release.

“The collective efforts of the community help to protect us all, in particular the most vulnerable among us.”
