Residents step up to support Ukraine

HURON COUNTY – Huron County has stepped up to support the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Volunteers Vanessa Kelly and Luliia Dovzhenko have been collecting donations from all over the country that will be shipped overseas. Dovzhenko grew up in Ukraine. The initiative has been dubbed Ukrainian Relief. All together this initiative has collected enough items to fill six 12-foot-long transport trailers, with the last two trucks picking up items this week.

Compass Minerals, Scott Logistics, and Woodcock Brothers have donated the transportation of the items, which will travel across the border to the USA, and then shipped overseas via boat on March 25.

Ukrainian Relief has paused the collection of items; however, they have partnered with the Goderich Lions Club who will be collecting monetary donations on behalf of this initiative. The Lions Club will then donate the funds through Lions International to border countries around Ukraine.
