Search continues for missing West Perth child

WEST PERTH – As of Monday, emergency service personnel remained on scene in the Municipality of West Perth, conducting a search for a missing child.

On March 6 just before 10:30 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Perth Fire Department, and Perth County Paramedic Services responded to a report of a missing 10-year-old child who was last seen at the river outside of Mitchell.

The Stratford, St. Marys, and Huron Area Search and Rescue Swift Water Rescue teams, along with the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Underwater Search and Rescue, and Aviation are searching for the child.

In order to give space for the emergency services to work in the treacherous conditions, the public is asked to avoid the area.

While a number of citizens have offered to assist in the search, the area of the river is not safe, and could hinder the rescue efforts.

Police say updates will be provided as they are available.

Anyone with information regarding this or any incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or online at www.opp.ca/reporting. Should you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous online message at www.P3tips.com where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
