Two charged with obstructing peace officer following Feb. 15 incident

NORTH PERTH – Two people were charged with obstructing a peace officer after a minor collision in North Perth.

On Feb. 15 just before 5 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was investigating a minor collision involving a tractor in the ditch on Line 57 in the Municipality of North Perth, when the situation escalated. The tractor was removed from the ditch, but it was determined that the driver had provided the officer a false name, and then fled the scene.

A second person attempted to block the officer by using another piece of heavy equipment.

Both people were arrested for obstructing a peace officer.

Andrew Terpstra, 21, of Huron East, has been charged with obstruct peace officer, flight from peace officer, and careless driving. Ryan Van Nuland, 18, of North Perth, has been charged with obstruct peace officer, and resist peace officer.

Both of the accused parties were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
