HURON-BRUCE – Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson was joined by Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody on Thursday, Feb. 17 to announce two investments for the municipality totaling $162,816 from the province’s modernization program.
“These two grants will help Brockton move forward in its planning and help them in their continuing efforts to modernize their services,” Thompson said.
The municipality is receiving $86,496 towards the cost to prepare a new recreation master service and facility plan.
This is a very important project for Brockton and I very much appreciate the support from the province,” said Peabody. “We have experienced a huge increase in our population, and we need to update our recreation and facility plans. This review will help us pave the way for the future of recreation in Brockton.”
The other grant of $76,320 will help the municipality set up a new digital portal for developers that will include e-filing for various applications, listing lands that are available for development, and other helpful information that will improve the process for projects.
“This grant will be very helpful as we look to expand our digital services that will streamline the manner in which we enable further investment in our communities in Brockton,” said Peabody.
Thompson said the municipal modernization program was launched by the Ford government “to help small and rural municipalities modernize service delivery and identify new ways to be more efficient and effective. The impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak have made this work more important than ever.”
Since its inception, the province’s modernization program has invested more than $350 million in support of small and rural communities.
