President Rose Austin has announced that monthly general membership meetings will resume on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the hall. Legion general meetings will follow the COVID protocols in effect at the time.
As members, every one of us should attend this general meeting to show our appreciation and support for the executive, which has been managing the operations of the Legion for over two years without a break. This meeting is also an opportunity for every member to help shape any future activities.
Branch elections for the positions of President, 1st Vice, 2nd Vice and six executive members will take place during the April 18 general meeting. Please consider running for an executive position, or reach out to another member about nominating them. Without these positions filled, the Branch would be unable to maintain our charter and the Walkerton Legion would be forced to close.
If you want to ensure the Legion continues but are not yet a member, you can join on line at https://portal.legion.ca/join. Application forms are also available at the bar.
Thanks to a team of members who volunteer at our meat draws, we can look forward to our first one since reopening, this Saturday, Feb. 19. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. with the first spin at 3 p.m.
Last Sunday, Phyllis and Ron Spitzig of Cargill won $237 in Walkerton’s Catch the Ace, when envelope #14 was opened to reveal the Jack of Hearts. Don’t miss your chance at this week’s jackpot, estimated at over $800. There are only a maximum 27 more weeks. Remember, our community also wins with Catch the Ace draws.
All veterans are invited for coffee at the Durham Legion on Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. and the same time every third Monday of the month. This is a chance to chat with others who have served in the military. If you have no transportation and would like to attend these coffee breaks for veterans, please call the Branch Service Officer at 519-507-1457. Any veteran is welcome, whether or not you are a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
