LISTOWEL – A suspect led police on a brief foot pursuit after a theft from a local business, but they were immediately arrested.
The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police were called to the business on Mitchell Road South in Listowel on Jan. 13 just before 1:30 p.m., after a person was witnessed shoplifting. The suspect then fled the store, and tried to get into a moving vehicle. The suspect was observed by officers, who were able to make an arrest after a brief foot pursuit.
John Garrett Winer, 35, of Puslinch Township, has been charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting, mischief – obstructs, interrupts, or interferes with the lawful use enjoyment or operation of property, and fail to comply with probation order (two counts).
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
