HURON-PERTH – Today (Nov. 19), Health Canada announced approval of the paediatric Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) COVID-19 vaccine for children aged five to 11 years.
Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) is not yet booking appointments for children aged five to 11, but will provide further updates in the days ahead as provincial direction and vaccine supply details are confirmed. Please do not use the booking system for this age group until HPPH announces that appointments are open.
“When vaccines are approved by Health Canada (federal government), we must wait for vaccine supply and further guidance from the Ontario Ministry of Health (provincial government) before we can begin local vaccination efforts,” said Dr. Miriam Klassen, Huron-Perth medical officer of health.
“The province is working with the federal government to finalize details on the specific timing of shipments, and will begin distributing doses as soon as they arrive. HPPH and our partners are ready to roll out vaccination opportunities to families of children aged five to 11 as soon as we can.”
HPPH has set up a webpage, www.hpph.ca/vaccine-kids, with information for parents and caregivers about the vaccine. The page will also provide further details on local availability as soon as possible. Subscribe to this page for updates.
