BGCDSB – The Bruce-Grey Catholic School Board reports that both Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton and St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound were selected for a pilot COVID-19 testing program.
The eight-week program began on Sept. 7 and ends Oct. 29.
It’s intended for vaccinated, asymptomatic high-risk contacts (both staff and students). Students are not required to disclose their vaccination status in order to participate in the pilot and participation in the pilot is voluntary for staff and students.
The board reports that there were two positive cases of COVID-19 during the first week of school – one at Notre Dame and one at St. Teresa of Calcutta in Walkerton. All staff and students have returned to school and work, and there was no community spread.
The board states that school-based vaccination clinics hosted in partnership with public health have gone very well. Nearly 200 students have been vaccinated at these clinics.
