Optimist Club supports snack program at Howick school

HOWICK – The Howick Optimist Club recently received a request to assist with funding the snack program at the Howick Central Public School.  Club members believe this is a very worthwhile program and agreed to help.

“Howick Central Public School is extremely grateful to the Howick Optimist Club for supporting our Snack Program,” Howick Central Public School Principal, Tracey Swart said. “Each morning, our hardworking educational assistants deliver a bin of healthy snacks to each of our classrooms.  The snacks are available in each classroom throughout the day so if a child is hungry first thing they can make sure they get something to eat or it can be used to top up a lunch if the child is still hungry.  Full tummies help our children be ready to learn.”

She added that the program is accessible to each and every student so that no child is made to feel self-conscious about accessing the snack program.

The snack program at Howick Central Public School is funded through the Ontario Snack and Nutrition Program.  This program funds over 480 schools throughout the southwest region.

“As part of the program, the school is encouraged to provide some of the fundraising so we are very thankful for the Howick Optimist for helping us out,” Swart added. “The Optimist are truly friends of youth!”

The Howick Optimist Club is committed to assisting with programs for kids in Howick Township.
