HURON-BRUCE – Jan Johnstone, the NDP candidate and her team opted for a Zoom party instead of the usual election night gathering to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy.
Johnstone said it was exciting to watch the returns come in from across the country, especially in several areas where the NDP were doing well. And they did do well. Johnstone and her team shifted from fearing a Conservative majority, to speculating on how long a Conservative minority would last, to hoping for a Liberal minority while improving their own seat count. That’s exactly what happened.
Locally, Johnstone’s own numbers improved, although incumbent Ben Lobb got his anticipated win in Huron-Bruce.
“I would like to thank all my supporters and well-wishers,” Johnstone said, “and I would like to congratulate Ben Lobb.”
Johnstone commended her small but enthusiastic team for a job well done. They knocked on a lot of doors, spoke with a lot of people and made a huge number of phone calls.
“It was a smaller campaign due to the snap election but we had a dedicated team,” she said.
