GREY-BRUCE – With people celebrating the final couple of weeks of summer, the local health unit is trying to get as many people as possible vaccinated by focusing not on COVID hot spots, but vacation hot spots.
Pop-up clinics are being held wherever people gather to enjoy fun in the sun (they may be cancelled due to poor weather).
Clinics are taking place this week in such places as the splash pad area at Kelso Beach, Summerfolk in Harrison Park, shopping malls, grocery stores and other locations. See the Grey Bruce Health Unit’s website for the full vaccination schedule.
In this area, there are two drive-in vaccination clinics this week, one at the community centre in Cargill, 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, and another at Walkerton District Community School on Friday, Aug. 20, 4-7 p.m. Although they’re drive-in clinics, pedestrians are welcome. No appointments are needed.
There’s a growing interest in vaccination passports and proof of vaccination. It’s easy to download or print an electronic COVID-19 vaccine receipt after each dose is received in Ontario. It doesn’t matter whether the vaccination was done at a mass clinic, hospital, pharmacy or pop-up clinic. To get a receipt, what’s needed is a green photo health card (numbers on both sides), date of birth and postal code.
Grey-Bruce currently has 41 active cases of COVID-19, including two new cases reported as of Aug. 15, one in Chatsworth and one in Meaford.
There are 89 high-risk contacts.
Five Grey-Bruce people are hospitalized in this area with COVID, and two local people have been transferred to hospitals outside the area.
There are currently two facilities with outbreaks – Kelso Villa retirement home in Owen Sound, and Queen of Hearts nursery school in Owen Sound.
