1953 was truly a banner year for Atwood’s bantam and midget boys’ baseball squads – 70 years ago this September, both teams captured their respective Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) championships. As highlighted in the Atwood Bee, approximately 1,000 fans turned out to watch pitcher Don Dennis throw a 21-strikeout no-hitter as the Bantams blew out Newcastle 17-0 in the decisive game at Atwood’s Agricultural Park.
