WALKERTON – A month-long speed patrol of the East and West Hills in Walkerton has resulted in police charging multiple drivers with speeding.
The blitz was conducted between Oct. 20 and Nov. 21, with a total of 15 hours of dedicated enforcement by members of the South Bruce OPP and West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Unit.
Thirteen drivers were charged with speeding, with another 17 drivers stopped and given warnings. Five drivers were charged with other moving violations, and 15 drivers were stopped and warned for other moving violations.
“Driving at high speeds reduces the maneuverability of the vehicle, limits your ability to safely negotiate curves and significantly increase the risk of becoming involved in a motor vehicle collision,” stated the South Bruce OPP in a release.
“Remember that speeding through a residential area with a reduced speed zone creates an unnecessary risk for anyone that is out walking or riding a bicycle.”
