North Huron driver charged with impaired driving

BELGRAVE – A North Huron resident is facing an impaired operation charge following a traffic stop on Nov. 18 in Belgrave.

Huron County OPP say the traffic stop occurred on around 11:40 p.m. that night when an office patrolling in Belgrave observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner.

A traffic stop was conducted on Queen’s Street. Police say while the officer was speaking with the driver, they noted the accused was displaying several signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to the London OPP detachment for further testing. The drug recognition expert at the detachment deemed the driver to be impaired by a drug.

The accused, 21-year-old Ashlyn Dejong from North Huron, has been charged with operation while impaired.

Dejong has since been released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled for Jan. 10, 2022 in Goderich.
