ER closures affect three local hospitals

HURON-BRUCE – Staffing issues have led to the overnight closure of three local emergency rooms.

With Lucknow’s Music in the Fields in full swing and other events attracting crowds to the area, ERs in Wingham and Chesley will be closed for at least part of this weekend.

Durham’s ER was closed overnight Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Wingham’s ER closes Friday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m., reopening Saturday at 7 a.m., closing again at 5 p.m. on Saturday and back to regular hours Sunday.

The ER in Chesley will be closed from 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 to 7 a.m. Sunday, and from 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 to Tuesday, Aug. 30.

The closures in Durham and Chesley are due to short-notice sick leaves.

Ambulances will be diverted to the nearest open ER.

Those requiring medical attention should call 911; for non-urgent health care needs, contact Health Connect Ontario at 811.

The closest hospitals to Chesley are Hanover and Durham.
