BLUEWATER – The Novice C division of the BCH Ice Stars returned home with gold from the OWHA provincials April 8-10, which their team coach considers a great send-off before they amalgamate with two other organizations in the next season.
The Novice C Ice Stars played their way to gold in provincials without letting themselves be scored upon once. The girls started things off beating the Toronto Wildcats 9-0 and then had a 0-0 tie against Chatham.
The girls then had a 3-0 victory over Waterloo. In the semi-finals, the Ice Stars beat the Lucan Irish 4-0.
The Ice Stars were matched up against South Huron in the finals, a team they had already recently beaten in the WOGHL championships, which was their first time defeating the Sabres.
“They hadn’t beat Exeter all year until the WOGHL championships, then beat them twice there and then again at provincials. They really turned it around,” said coach Scott Meyer.
Again, the Ice Dogs would not be scored upon, and the girls won 2-0.
Last year, BCH Girls Hockey, the Blyth Brussels Minor hockey association and West Huron Wave Female Hockey Association agreed the three organizations would merge into the Huron Heat Female Hockey association, which will debut in the 2016-17 season.
